Multimedia Design Intern, Johannesburg (6month contract)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The Multimedia Design Intern will enhance the African Risk Capacity Group's communication efforts by producing high-quality visual and video content, engaging in desktop publishing, and managing digital communications to effectively reach and engage our audiences.

ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive):

Graphic Design & Desktop Publishing:


Design and layout of reports, policy briefs, brochures, and other publications;

Create compelling infographics and visuals that convey complex information in an accessible manner;

Maintain and enforce brand guidelines across all materials;

Digital Communication:

Develop content for and manage our digital platforms, including websites and social media channels;

Engage with our online community and respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner;

Monitor digital trends and suggest innovative ideas to increase digital engagement;

Provide support in managing online content, including updating website information and posting timely content on social media platforms.

 Video Production:

Plan, shoot, and edit video content that tells the story of our impact and mission;

Coordinate with team members to script and storyboard video projects;

Manage the post-production process, including editing, adding music, and ensuring consistent branding.

 Administrative & Support Functions:

Participate in content planning and strategy sessions;

Assist in managing the content calendar and ensuring deadlines are met;

Provide administrative support as needed, including preparing presentations and supporting communication campaigns

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Communications, or a related field. and have completed at least two years of the programme as well as have attended classes in the last 12 months; OR 

Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, Masters in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Communications, or a related field and have attended classes in the last 12 months OR 

Recent graduate (from an undergraduate or graduate programme in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Communications, or a related field.) within six months prior to application to the internship and attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment with the university.

Experience:

Knowledge and Skills:  

Strong skills in graphic design and desktop publishing, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Première Pro, InDesign, Photoshop) or equivalent.

Demonstrated experience in video production, including filming and editing (proficiency in video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Filmora or Final Cut Pro).

Experience managing social media platforms and creating web content.

Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

A keen eye for aesthetics and visual details.

Interest in humanitarian work, climate change adaptation, and risk management.

Language:

Fluency in both oral and written English Language). Knowledge of a second official UN language an asset
